I went onto the Web Site for Fort #4 in Charlestown, N.H. to verify some info and got a surprise. A streaming banner message stated that they were closed for the remaining 2009 Season due to the Economy. I am assuming the Membership Dues fell off and Donations dropped. They are a Non-Profit. They did not list any Events for this year so I do not know the status of the Reenactments that were planned to take place there or how it will affect us here. Waiting on return phone calls. Art
In these times of economic turmoil, I believe it's important to form a strong community. A community where we work together, lend a helping hand, barter, do plant swaps, time and money saving recipes, etc.
For instance, I've decided to enlarge my garden in preparation for the winter, higher prices or shortage of food. Basically, a good way to reduce food costs, no matter what transpires.
I've also decided to raise chickens, if I can pull it together.
Working together as a community will create opportunities where none existed.
Is there someone who would like to have a vegetable garden but doesn't have the garden space? Do you have something to barter in exchange for vegetables? Would someone like to work in, for instance, my garden, which could be enlarged to accommodate your needs.
What skills do you have that would be of use to someone else in exchange for something they have. Do you know how to do repairs? Sewing? Canning? Do you have scrap wood for projects? The list is endless.
What do you think? What would you like to see here? Let me know by posting to the forum or sending me a message from my profile page.
Here are a couple of videos about what our Earth has endured because of bad choices, politics and greed. The bottom line about our Earth, Economy, Pollution, Energy Crisis, Loss of Honey Bees, Aids, Starvation, etc. is the result of bad choices / decisions, something we can change.
