The Granite Matrix

Welcome to the Granite Matrix!

Granite Matrix Video!
I thought it would be fun to make a small video from the photos of GM'ers so here it is:
GM'ers First Video, on YouTube!

For the next few weeks I've decided to dedicate the Granite Matrix to Sustainable Living and Green Living.

I've added a music player. You will find a music player on your profile page in the left hand column. Now you can add your favorite songs to your player! Your songs will have to be in MP3 format.

I'm still working on the "Classifieds" section. It will be here soon. Come back and see what's happening!!

Today 08/08/08, a Master Day where the Gates to the Spiritual Realms of Christ Consciousness are open to you. Whether you believe that or not, just for today I am posting this video here on the main page to encourage you to Visualize World Peace, Love and Healing. Today visualize and create a wondrous life for yourself and our world!

Somewhere Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World

Our world is changing so fast, our economy has changed for the worse and our beautiful earth that we live on is in need of our support and healing.

I know this sounds like "Oh, Politics Again!" but there is nothing on or in our world, our Earth, that has not become what it is without Politics. Politics rules what happens to us, our children, our future and our children's future, (that which they inherit from us), our country, our world neighbors and our Earth (that small orb that sustains us, provides for us: food, water, air, sunlight, beauty, joy, etc.) is a by product of how the politics of our country and our world have operated to this point.

My point is that we need to be more pro-active about the changes we would like to see, such as more Organic Farms, more Alternative Energy Sources to reduce our dependency on oil.

Our lives have been a whirlwind which has prevented us from seeing the devastation that has occurred.
It is up to all of us to Connect and Work together to save this planet, our Children, our Neighbors in our Towns to our Neighbors across the World.

How do we start? Shop Locally, Shop Smartly, Buy from Local Farms and Local Businesses, Conserve Energy in usage in our Homes, Become more Energy Efficient.

Some info on Sustainability:

Some great info from the Natural Step for Communities by Sarah James and Torbjorn Lahti, 2004:
"....the Natural Step framework for sustainability includes four conditions:
1. Eliminate our community's contribution to fossil fuel dependence adn to wasteful use of scarce metals and minerals.
2. Eliminate our community's contribution to dependence upon persistent chemicals and wasteful use of synthetic substances.
3. Eliminate our community's contribution to encroachment upon nature (eg. land, water, wildlife, forests, soil, ecosystems)
4. Meet human needs fairly and efficiently."

From Guideposts for a Sustainable Future Project:

Activities are sustainable when they:

1. Use materials in continuing cycles
2. Use continuously reliable sources of energy
3. Come mainly from the potentials of being human, ie., communication, creativity, coordination, appreciation and spiritual and intellectual development.

Activities are non-sustainable when they:

1. Require continual inputs of non-renewable resources
2. Use renewable resources faster than their rate of renewal
3. Cause cumulative degradation of the environment
4. Require resources in quantities that could never be sustainable for all people
5. Lead to the extinction of other life forms."

Here are a couple of videos about what our Earth has endured because of bad choices, politics and greed. The bottom line about our Earth, Economy, Pollution, Energy Crisis, Loss of Honey Bees, Aids, Starvation, etc. is the result of bad choices / decisions, something we can change.

I originally thought I would upload an MP3 of this song "Beds are Burning" but I don't have one !

Can we preserve a community resource???

The recent closing and subsequent sale of the Four Seasons Health Center to Jay Soucy owner of Evergreen Gymnastics is great for preserving and expanding the tennis and adding the gymnastics elements to the new organization. However, in a brief conversation with Jay, he has no interest in at this time in undertaking the task of operating the pool. The demise of this community resource will essentially eliminate any source of indoor aquatic resources in the region. Personally, I have had both my… Continue

Compassion for Other Animals

This three minute news video is a story on an animal advocate's visit to a farm animal sanctuary. The advocate, Karen Dawn, is also the author of a new book reviewing how our culture treats animals and asking us to reconsider. She contends that most people are more compassionate than such treatment would indicate. http://www.nbc4.com/goinggreen/17171247/detail.html

Co-Housing

Did you notice the article in the list of NH news on the main page, bottom left on co-housing in NH? It's a wonderful idea that originated in Denmark. Co-housing villages allow folks to buy member shares in order to move in and join. There are shared facilities as well as clustered individual and family dwellings. Most of them are environmentally conscious and pro-community. So they are ecological and economical ways to live that increase opportunities for connection with other people. Many have… Continue
